Greenleaf Botanique coloring kits: the essentials for a successful experience

 

Because plant-based hair color is a radically different technology from traditional hair color, it is necessary to know a few basic rules before starting an application:

 

1/ Plant-based hair color does not lighten hair! You cannot get a lighter color than your initial base. Indeed, a lightening is often the result of a chemical synthesis. Plant-based coloring therefore only allows tone-on-tone or darker coloring.

 

2/ You will no longer be able to lighten your hair if you have applied a plant-based coloring containing indigo. Indeed, indigo turns green if you attempt to lighten your hair…

 

3/ If you have more than 30% white hair, and if you apply a dark color (Black, Deep Chestnut, Walnut, Brown), a Prep color is necessary to allow the color to hold on white hair (see below for the instructions application).

 

4/ After doing a plant-based coloring, it is essential not to shampoo within the following 72 hours. The pigments of the plant-based coloring take time to fix themselves correctly on the hair and to reveal themselves completely. If you wash your hair before the end of 72 hours, you interrupt the process of your plant-based coloring and take the risk of not having the expected result..

Which tools for a successful application?

 

In order to apply your plant-based hair color in the right conditions, we recommend that you:

 

• The necessary for the color: the coloring powder, the Prep color if necessary, and hot water
• The right tools: a non-metallic bowl (preferably wooden), an application brush, a parting comb, a shower cap (included in the Greenleaf Botanique kit), a kettle or a thermometer to ensure the good water temperature
• The right care products: a certified organic shampoo, a certified organic conditioner, our HydroGel care base (optional)

 

 

When is the best time to change hair color?

 

The best time to change hair color is when you feel like it! There are no precise rules, and everything depends on your desires and your goals. However, we recommend that you do a small allergy test 48 hours before applying the color to your hair. Before purchasing for the first time, we also recommend that you seek the advice of a professional hairdresser to help you choose the right color.

What is the difference between a plant-based coloring and a traditional coloring?

 

Plant-based coloring is made of pigments of natural origin, while traditional coloring is made from synthetic dyes. Traditional hair colors often contain harsh chemicals such as ammonia, hydrogen peroxide or PPD, which can damage your hair or cause allergies. The Greenleaf Botanique plant-based hair color contains none of these harmful chemicals and is therefore much gentler on your hair. You will more easily achieve the hairstyle of your choice since your hair will be more supple and easier to comb.

What is the lifespan of a plant-based coloring?

 

A plant-based hair color is permanent, but the highlight can oxidize over time and make the color less shiny. To preserve your highlight for as long as possible, we recommend using a specific color-protecting shampoo and conditioner, and limiting your exposure to the sun or other heat sources.

 

 

 

 

How do I apply my Greenleaf Botanical plant-based color kit?

 

Quantity of product required for a generous application of the product as a poultice (for information only):

50g - short to medium length hair (above the shoulders)

100g - long hair (below the shoulders)

25g powder = 75mL water (to be adjusted according to the desired texture)

 

Water temperature when mixing:

Dark/cold highlights: 20°C - 68°F

Brown/neutral highlights: 40°C - 104°F

Light/warm highlights: 60°C - 140°F

 

 

Application tips:

 

1/ Apply the certified organic shampoo to hair before coloring. Towel-dry them, they must remain slightly damp.

 

2/ Open the sachet and pour the powder into a bowl with water at the temperature adapted to the desired highlight. Mix to create a smooth cream by following the ratio indicated above.

 

3/ Apply the product immediately and evenly to the areas to be covered, either with a brush or with your hands.

 

4/ Cover all of the hair with the shower cap. Leave on for 60min to 90min (60min for light colors, 90min for brown, warm and dark colors - the longer the resting time, the more intense and covering the result will be).

 

5/ Rinse with lukewarm water. Apply a certified organic care conditioner to properly hydrate the hair, rebalance the pH, close the scales and fix the pigments. Leave on for 5 minutes then rinse thoroughly. Do not shampoo within 72 hours after using the color for better hold over time. Dry with a hair dryer.

 

If a Prep color is needed: start by applying Prep. Prepare the product with water at 60°C - 140°F, for a resting time of 30min on the hair. Rinse, towel-dry, then apply the desired color.
